In chinese we call this literary technique as, 以乐景衬哀情. That means, to depict a sad man, sometimes we choose to describe his forced smile and the happy world around him, instead of describing his wistful face directly.
The title of this song is called 夜雨寄北. This is a famous poem in ancient China. The poet was away from home, and his wife wrote to him, asking when would he return. So the poet wrote this poem:
When would I go back to home? Someday.
Now the rain welled up in lake, in the evening of autumn.
Someday I would be with you, blowing out the candle.
Then I might talk about the rain, about that evening of autumn.
